The Design Genie
About Banakayi
Banakayi means, “a child of the world.” It was handed down to me from my Congolese grandmother. The meaning of it has never escaped me, and I’ve always considered myself as one of a connected whole. The part is insignificant without an interaction with the sum.
I am a creative specializing in Interior Design and Architecture, with 15 years of experience in the industry. I believe in the design of connectivity, and my calling is to share inspired vision through elevated expression.
As the product of international parents, I bring to my work an infusion of cultures and a diversity of ideas. A true child of the world.
What We Do
Our Process
Consultation
Before we meet, I have you complete a survey to assess your expectations, timeline, and budget. We then meet at your space to discuss your answers more fully, and for me to take measurements and pictures.
I follow up our meeting with a Letter of Intent, confirming what we’ve agreed to, as well my projected schedule for the phases of the project.
Design
In this phase, once I’ve done some preliminary research, I’ll present you with some potential color schemes, design concepts, and furniture options. The presentation will be in the form of a simple 3D floor plan that will reflect the final look of your space. We’ll talk about what you like and don’t like and record your requested changes. We’ll go through 2 rounds of changes at most, but we usually get it right after round 1. Once you’ve approved the final design, we’ll revisit the budget and timeline. Then we can start the installation.
Installation
I’ll order the furniture, lighting, accessories, and decor. If your design requires custom furniture, lighting, etc., we’ll meet with the necessary contractors and create a schedule needed to complete the work.
Installation may or may not happen all at once. It all depends on the delivery dates of the ordered pieces, as well as the extent of the contract work. However, once your design is done, we’ll perform a final review together to make sure that you’re satisfied with the results.
